Pastitsio is a delicious traditional Greek baked pasta dish. Here is my aunt's famous recipe... Enjoy!
Step 1: Prepare the Minced Meat
2 lbs of minced beef
heat in frying pan then add:
1/3 cup olive oil
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 grated onion
Allow it to cook for a few minutes then add:
- 1 small can of tomato sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
- 1 cup of water
Let it all cook until it gets dry
Step 2: Prepare the Pasta
boil 1/2 a pot of water and add:
- 1 box of Ziti #2 pasta
- 2 tablespoons of salt
let boil for 15 minutes
rinse pasta with cold water and add:
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 3 tablespoons of grated cheese
Step 3: Prepare the BŠ?chamel Sauce
in a bowl, mix:
- 2 cups of milk
- 1/3 teaspoon of salt
- 1/3 teaspoon of pepper
- 2 eggs
- slowly add 10-12 tablespoons of flour and keep mixing!
separately, bring the following to a boil:
- 4 cups of milk
- 1/2 tablespoon of butter
slowly add the bowl mixture to the boiling milk until it's creamy
Step 4: Putting it All Together
- lightly oil the bottom of the baking pan

- melt 3 tablespoons of butter and brush on top of the sauce
- preheat oven to 400 degrees
