Subject: Pastitsio
Question: I ate Pastitsio in a Greek restaurant last week and I was enthousiasted by its taste. Could you please give me the recipe?
Answer:
Pastitsio is a delicious traditional Greek baked pasta dish. Here is my aunt's famous recipe... Enjoy!


Step 1: Prepare the Minced Meat

2 lbs of minced beef

heat in frying pan then add:

1/3 cup olive oil

- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 grated onion

Allow it to cook for a few minutes then add:

- 1 small can of tomato sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
- 1 cup of water

Let it all cook until it gets dry

Step 2: Prepare the Pasta

boil 1/2 a pot of water and add:

- 1 box of Ziti #2 pasta
- 2 tablespoons of salt

let boil for 15 minutes

rinse pasta with cold water and add:

- 1 egg (beaten)
- 3 tablespoons of grated cheese

Step 3: Prepare the BŠ?chamel Sauce

in a bowl, mix:

- 2 cups of milk
- 1/3 teaspoon of salt
- 1/3 teaspoon of pepper
- 2 eggs
- slowly add 10-12 tablespoons of flour and keep mixing!

separately, bring the following to a boil:

- 4 cups of milk
- 1/2 tablespoon of butter

slowly add the bowl mixture to the boiling milk until it's creamy

Step 4: Putting it All Together

- lightly oil the bottom of the baking pan
- layer 2/3's of the pasta in the pan
- add the minced meat
- add the remaining 1/3 of the pasta
- top with the bechamel sauce
- melt 3 tablespoons of butter and brush on top of the sauce
- preheat oven to 400 degrees
- bake for 40 minutes at 400 degrees
