Subject: |
Greek Santa |
Question: |
Some countries instead of Santa Claus have other gift givers eg Italy has Befana, Spain the Three Kings etc. What's Greece traditional gift giver? |
Answer: |
 |
Traditionaly in Greece we have Agio (Sent) Vasilio who was a real person born around 329 AD. and we celebrete his memory on 1st January every year.
Although Sent Vasilios lived a very austere life and in orthodox church he appears to be slim and simply dressed, during the New Year's Eve his external appearence is identified with Santa Clause's, and the majority of children believe that Santa Clause and Agios Vasilios is the same "person".
